Internationally acclaimed Odissi dancer Sruti Barua believes that dance is an art form where instructions are not just handed over from the Guru to the disciple, but also the grace and values passed over. Appreciated both as a performer and choreographer in the field of classical Odissi Dance in the country and abroad for the past three decades, Barua needs no introduction in this field.

Born in Kolkata on 4th February 1971, Sruti started her journey as a dancer when she was merely 4.5 years old under the able guidance of Guru Rambabu & Thankmuni Kutti in her native place Kolkata. Later, she started her professional Odissi Training under Padmashri Guru Ranjana Gauhar where her dancing flourished to perfection. Sruti was also trained by Guru Jitender Maharaj with the disciple of Nalini and Kamalini. Not only Odissi, but she is also a trained Kathak Dancer. In the year 2001 she was trained in Rabindranatyam by Guru Valmiki Bannerjee. Guru Thankmuni Kutti taught her Bharatnatyam and Guru Rambabu polished her in various folk and dance dramas. The avid learner in her encouraged her to learn another Odissi Dance style in the form of Kelucharan Mahapatra as well as Abhinaya from Guru Trinath Maharana and in 2019 she learned Mayadhar Rout Style from Padmashree Guru Ranjana Gauhar and still performing under her guidance.

Sruti Barua is a Dance teacher at BGS International Public School Dwarka. Her academy Nritya Narta at Dakshinayan Apartment at Dwarka grooms the budding artists who want to learn this dance form. Her students are winning awards at state, national and international levels and are the flag bearer of this graceful performing art.

Sruti Barua was awarded with B.A. NTT, Diploma in Tagore music, Nikhil Bharat, Nritya Bhushan, Natya Avishkar by ANASS (for 3 consecutive years) and have been giving Odissi Dance Workshops, and Judging the Dance Competitions. To popularise Odissi as Indian Classical Dance, she has travelled and performed Odissi in different parts of India, England, Nepal, Singapore etc. She is also a Dance Secretary at PYKKA. Among the distinguished senior dancers of the Odissi style, Sruti Barua’s approach to this art form is as enthusiastic as a beginner's. Breaking the monotony of age in a dancer's life, Barua performs with the young kids and her contemporaries on stage with utmost grace and pious. Sruti Barua still accompanies her senior dancers and gives breathtaking performances and enjoys the peak of her career.
